Head of Tech Independer
What will you do as Head of Tech?
Independer has ambitious goals: we aim to become the largest fixed costs platform in the Netherlands. This means we want to fully support our customers in managing their fixed costs and provide them with relevant, reliable comparisons in areas such as insurance, energy contracts, and more. To achieve this, we must continuously expand, improve, and maintain our platform.
Reporting to the CTO of Online Services at DPG, you will lead Independer’s Tech department. We are looking for someone who is passionate about leading an established team while also eager to break new ground and set up the department for future success. You’ll need a clear vision for the role of IT within the organization and the ability to communicate and execute this vision effectively.
At Independer, we are shifting towards a more customer-centered approach, focusing on individuals rather than grouping them by product categories. This shift encompasses organizational, technical, and cultural dimensions, all of which must align and elevate together. It involves transitioning from isolated teams to a more collaborative and overarching architecture, from scattered data to centralized usage, and from excelling in the present to being ready for the future.
Your mission is to create a cohesive, effective department that develops and supports Independer’s IT platform for both today and tomorrow. In an era where DORA compliance is increasingly critical, you’ll ensure Independer’s growth is consistently supported while leveraging emerging technologies to create real value. You’ll explore how these innovations can be applied without losing sight of current realities, keeping Independer at the forefront of a dynamic market.

Strategic leadership and vision development
- Develop a clear vision for the Tech department that aligns with the broader company strategy and transformation goals.
- Chart a long-term course and translate it into concrete objectives.
Driving organizational and cultural change
- Expertise in change management is essential.
- Guide employees through change processes, manage resistance, and foster a culture that supports new ways of working.
- Make data-driven decisions and establish systems to monitor measurable performance.
Stakeholder management and communication
- Take responsibility for shaping the organization, with a focus on positioning the Tech department, and actively participate in structuring it.
Leadership and team development
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, motivation, and growth.
- Ensure continuity and quality while creating a work environment that enables the team to perform optimally within available budgets and resources.
Technical and innovative expertise
- While operational tasks are handled by three delivery managers, solid technology knowledge is crucial for strategic decision-making and guidance.
Flexibility and problem-solving skills
- Quickly adapt to changes and find solutions for unforeseen challenges in a dynamic environment.
Other requirements
- Strong command of the English language; Dutch is a plus.
- At least 15 years of experience in IT and software delivery.
- A university or higher education degree, preferably with a strong IT component.
