The Network Operations Engineer at NN Group is responsible for monitoring, managing, and improving the network's health and performance, ensuring stability and security.
intro
Do you have what it takes to play an important role in ensuring that NN Group is available 24/7? As one of the biggest financial services companies in the Netherlands, it is essential that our IT infrastructure and underlying network are reliable and secure at all times. That is why we are looking for a network engineer that understands the importance of good network operations, has expertise and skills in this area and enjoys working in a dynamic environment. In this role, you also have the chance to keep improving yourself and take on new challenges for your own growth and goals. Are you up for the job?Wat je gaat doen
Our network infrastructure is crucial for NN Group to deliver products & services and have contact with our customers. The Network Managed Services team is responsible for continuously monitoring the status of the network and intervene if a problem occurs. You will also proactively search for potential future problems and solve these to ensure the stability and continuity of our network. This activity is crucial, because a problem on the network can quickly result in (large parts of) the business coming to a standstill and this should always be in the back of your mind when working. Additionally, the Network Managed Services team performs changes to the network at the request of all our business units. You can think of changing firewall rules so that a new website can go live, or creating a new VLAN or VIPs, processing DNS requests and ensuring an overall healthy network environment. Our business units are often heavily dependent on the Network Managed Services team for their progress. And in today's rapidly changing IT landscape, that means an ever-increasing number of requests that need to be executed. To ensure we keep the network continuously healthy, we are looking for a driven professional like you!
As a Network Operations Engineer you follow a documented way of working with general guidelines on how to interact with the business and what checks to perform when performing your daily activities.
Some of your daily activities may include:
- Actively monitor the health/performance of the network environment and troubleshoot/solve network issues (also when reported by the business)
- Taking operational responsibility for the network infrastructure, including processing and managing operational tasks like DNS requests or standard changes
- Executing changes to the network environment on different components like firewalls, proxies, load balancers and VPNs
- Improving or expanding on the existing automated processes
- Perform floor management activities (on-site in NN offices and/or datacentres) and on-call/standby duties
What we offer you
NN invests in an inclusive, inspiring work environment and in skills and competences for the future. We match this with employee benefits that are in line with what is needed today and in the future. This way, we offer our employees the opportunity to get the best out of themselves. We offer you:
- Salary between €3.415 and €4.878 based on a 36 hour work week, depending on your knowledge and experience
- 13th month and holiday allowance are paid with your monthly salary
- 27 vacation days for a 5-day working week and one Diversity Day
- A modern pension administered by BeFrank
- Plenty of training and learning opportunities
- NS Business Card 2nd class, which gives you unlimited travel, also privately. Do you prefer to travel with your own transport? Then you can declare the kilometers travelled

What you will bring
You are assertive, inquisitive and not afraid to face complex problems. You are able to both work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. You have good communication and interpersonal skills. You keep calm and maintain focus when carrying out your work and have a good eye for detail. You also have:
- At least two years of work experience in a network environment and having certifications such as CCNP or equivalent are preferred
- Experience managing WAN, OfficeLAN or Datacenter Networks (firewalls, proxies, load balancers) and having experience with VMware NSX is a plus
- Understand automation (Ansible), scripting (Python, Go) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- A customer-friendly attitude, you love new (network) technology and like to work in an agile team
- A driver’s license and being able to travel occasionally to our datacentres and offices both in The Netherlands and Belgium
If you are a highly motivated individual who is passionate about networking technologies and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
Met wie je werkt
The Network Managed Services team currently consists of 6 Network Engineers located both in The Netherlands and our IT Hub in Czechia. This number might seem like a limited staff for a large organization like NN, but our focus on automation means that we are continuously optimizing our processes and workload. This strong focus on automating regularly recurring activities means that we can use our time efficiently, including taking part in development projects with our Network Foundation team. Participating in these projects (for example setting up a zero-trust network, secure internet access, micro-segmentation or SD-WAN) means you have more diverse tasks and ensures that you stay up-to-date with the latest developments both in our own network and the broader network field. Cooperation within and between both network teams is essential to keep everyone aligned and is highly encouraged to facilitate personal growth and development.
The team is based in The Hague and we work in a hybrid setting which means 1 (or 2) day(s) in the office and the other days we work from home. Our regular office-day is on Wednesday and we meet up at least once a month with the entire team to reconnect and catch up. Every quarter we also organize a team-day to talk about strategy, projects and technology, but also spend half the day doing a fun activity or having dinner and drinks.
